This year's workshops will focus on: 

  • Speaking Truth to Power:  Engaging Reproductive Health Policy as a Public Health Professional

    • Led by Dabney P. Evans, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Global Health, 

Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University

  • An exceptional public health leader, Dr. Evans is a mixed‐methods researcher of issues affecting vulnerable populations at the intersection of public health and human rights. She is architect and Director of the Center for Humanitarian Emergencies in the Rollins School of Public Health and the Emory University Institute of Human Rights ‐ both focus on capacity building.  In July 2017 she assumed the position of Interim director for the Emory University Institute of Developing Nations. 

  • The Rights Way to Meet Population Challenges in a Crowded World

    • Led by John Seager, President and CEO of Population Connection.

      • A veteran of more than 50 political campaigns, John has published op-eds and articles on population growth for a number of news outlets including Huffington Post, GlobalPost, and RH Reality Check. John frequently speaks at conferences on population, the environment, and women’s empowerment. 
      • John's workshop will provide a holistic look at the link between rapid population growth and ensuing negative impacts and the necessity for women's empowerment and an improved quality of life. 

      • He will also address current policy and politics. 

 

  • Rachel’s Law: Sex Trafficking Policy Change in Georgia

    • Led by Dr. Sharnell Myles, licensed psychotherapist and supervising clinician for youthSpark, Inc.

      • Dr. Myles also serves as CEO/Owner of JoyUs Beginnings Child & Family Wellness Center and The Urban Trauma Positive Impact Center, LLC. She is the Vice Chair of the Georgia Statewide Human Trafficking Taskforce Workgoup 7 - Survivors Supported and Protected, a member of the Georgia Statewide Multi-Disciplinary Team for Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking, and the Chair for the DeKalb County Juvenile Court Mental Health Court - Journey Program Advisory Board. Dr. Myles routinely provides expert testimony in legal cases involving child and adolescent trauma and presented at various conferences.
